I published a short article
in the TeleLeader News about the current and
future trends in coaching. Here's the
content:
Hello Everyone, and welcome to the weekly PTC
TeleLeader News. This morning at breakfast I put together the
"Current / Future Trends in Coaching" article you'll find below.
It was sparked by an article about the CEO of UPS and how
they're working on keeping up with trends in the shipping
industry. So scroll towards the bottom, or click the link on the
left and read what I came up with and why. Send me your comments
if you agree, disagree or anything else.
Current / Future Trends in Coaching
Drivers that influence the
business of coaching:
>The rising cost of gas will result in more phone
coaching clients.
>Coaching is a luxury for most. Major decline in luxury
spending means target your market towards who CAN pay.
>Group, phone, webinar coaching is / will be gaining in
popularity.
>In person / your home town coaching more popular than
having the client travel, air fare, gas cost to get to you.
>Coach Training:
*Local live coach training will flourish because of
travel costs if priced correctly.
* Online, webinar, phone / teleclass coach training
will continue to grow.
*Coaches who really want live training will pay the
cost and travel which will result in a smaller market to sell
training to.
*Coaches are not willing to put up with the high cost
of coach training sites (coachville.com) or programs. They will
want less costly, more effective solutions for marketing,
networking, business organization, website development / email,
etc.
>Live, in person client coaching will get more niche
specific. No more 'life coach, relationship coach, business
coach'. Now it will be / become: 'coaching for parents who have
kids with ADD', 'coaching for the gay or lesbian wealthy
couple', 'coaching for high profile executives who have lost
their job through downsizing'. The narrow niche market will
yield a better pay rate and faster expert status.
That's
what I came up with. The CEO of UPS came up with these things to
advance their business, things you can think on and predict
trends yourself.
What
is the world going to look like in the future?
Use scenario based thinking.
Identify major drivers that influence the business.
Create a matrix that looks like trends and possible courses of
action.
Think in terms of probabilities.
Use longer planning and viability.
My
thoughts on Internet and Communications trends:
Internet: more broadband, more wireless spots, more
websites vying for business, your office can now be online (google
docs), more useful niche data sites, more streaming video on
sites, more useful blogs as resource, cheaper laptops, search
engine optimization critical for websites to flourish.
Communications: video to become common on cell phones, .mobi
websites growing, cell phone become cheaper with more features
as giants compete for business, unlimited minutes becomes the
standard plan, bigger screens on cell phones for video, surfing,
pictures, data; (side note - greater division between the middle
class and the 'new poor', think foreclosures)
